PS - 4x4 Old Dale District Ironage Mine - Joshua Tree

Beginning at Gold Crown Road, this loop explores key sites within the Old Dale Mining District, including the Hideout Mine, Ivanhoe Mine, and Ironage Mine. The route travels roughly 25 miles across historic mining terrain before exiting at Ironage Road, located about 15 miles east of Twentynine Palms along Highway 62.

A notable feature of the route is the narrow shelf road leading up to Ivanhoe Mine, which requires careful driving and true 4WD capability. Overall, this is a moderate‑rated trail suitable for high‑clearance vehicles and drivers comfortable with uneven surfaces, loose rock, and occasional tight sections.

This is a loop route, starting at Gold Crown Road and finishing at Ironage Road, offering a mix of mining history, desert scenery, and classic Joshua Tree backcountry driving.

Meeting Locations:

• 8:00 AM - PetSmart, Ramon/Crossley, Palm Springs - Map 
• 9:15 AM at the 7 Eleven station Twentynine Palms - Map
• Expect to be on the trail for 5 or more hours
• Optional dinner in Yucca Valley.

Equipment Requirements:

4-wheel drive high clearance vehicle with transfer case, trail rated tires, a spare tire and a full tank of gas. Bring water and snacks/lunch.  Pets are welcome. 

Drivers are welcome to bring passengers, who should register separately here. Please note that GO does not arrange carpools. If a driver is open to offering a ride, you may so indicate when registering.
