America’s public lands are a national treasure—unique in the world and owned by all Americans. We invite you to a special shared viewing of a recorded 60‑minute presentation by Walt Dabney, retired National Park Service and Texas State Parks Director. Walt’s presentation offers one of the most accurate and accessible explanations of how America’s public lands came to be, why they are concentrated in the West, and why they remain essential to our national identity and future.

Why this matters

America’s public lands are facing increasing pressure from proposals to transfer federal lands to state ownership, a move that would make them far more vulnerable to sale, privatization, and restricted public access. Although most public lands are located in the West, they belong to all Americans, regardless of where they live.

This session is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the places we share, the laws that protect them, and the threats they face today.
