Let's take a hike from the Tram to Idyllwild via Wellman's Divide and return by carpool to our cars at the Tram parking lot. This weather dependent hike covers the familiar trail to Wellman's Divide, then descends through Wellman's Cienega--an area with (usually) year round spring water, ferns, and wildflowers, and connects to the familiar-to-some Devil's Slide trail to Humber Park.

Because GOPS is prohibited from arranging car pools, each hiker will need to secure their own transportation from Humber Park back to the Tram lot as provided below.

 Carpool Requirement & Coordination (Important):

We will be using a third-party tool for hikers and drivers to create carpools for the ride back from Humber Park to the Tram Station.

  • Participation by non-hikers to volunteer as drivers is necessary to make this hike a success
  • Participants are responsible for arranging their own carpools (and offering to help defray the driver's expenses)

Arranging your carpool per the following process no later than Saturday, April 25 at 9 AM is required

Drivers and hikers must register at Groupcarpool.com Registration Site. The site gathers information about seats available and offers a waitlist for hikers (riders). Hikers must also register for the hike through the GOPS site. Drivers do not need to register with GOPS.

This is GOPS-PS first experience using this service. Your feedback to the hike leader about your experience will be appreciated.

Arrive at the Palm SpringsTramway Valley Station in time to catch the 8 AM tram. Advance tickets may be available. Tickets are usually available to purchase on site. If participants are in the Valley Station lobby and have checked in with the hike leader, we will await arrival of the 2nd tram before departing if necessary.

Water may be available at Round Valley and Wellman's Cienega. If it is available, it will require filtering.

We will plan on 5.5 hours for hiking and breaks, arriving in Humber Park around 2:30 PM. Carpool drivers should meet us at Humber Park for the 75 minute drive back to the tram parking lot.
