Union Station and Fred Harvey Restaurant tour
January 22, 2026 beginning at 10:30 AM
I, Frederick Brown, a Metro Arts Council Docent will be leading a group tour of Union Station and the Fred Harvey Restaurant on January 22, 20206, beginning at 10:30 AM and ending at approximately 12:00 PM. Because the group that has requested the tour is small, Barbara Lashenik who is in charge of the art tours told me that I could invite members of another group. Because I will be helping her to set up the tour, I need to be at Metro Headquarters at 9:15 AM and won’t be able to join those riding the train.
For those interested in driving, we will be meeting at the Information Booth just inside the entrance to the station at 10:30 AM. For those taking metro from Long Beach, the best place to park is Willow Street Station which has amble free parking. To arrive at Union Station, take the northbound A Line toward Pomona North, leaving Willow Station at 9:11 AM, arriving at Union Station at 10:07 AM. That will allow you 23 minutes to walk to the West Portal where you will find the Information Booth. Because I will be helping her to set up the tour, I need to be at Metro Headquarters at 9:15 AM and won’t be able to join those riding the train
Union Station was finished and opened in 1939. Metro purchased Union Station in 2011 and has been refurbishing it since.
We will begin our tour in the concourse, then visit the restaurant, followed by the waiting room. Lastly we will travel through the passageway to the East Portal. You will hear about he architecture and history of the station. We will also view some of the art in the station in the time that we have.
For those wanting to have lunch, there are several good options around the station.
