Description: Visit three popular Joshua Tree National Park rock formations:  Skull Rock, Face Rock and Split Rock as we traverse multiple trails providing a variety of landscapes and unique rock formations, beginning and ending at the Split Rock parking area, just off Park Blvd. approximately 2.2 miles west of Pinto Basin Road.

  • Trail Length: 3.4 miles.
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: 376 feet.
  • Difficulty Rating: Typically rated easy.  However, it will be a bit challenging for an unconditioned person because of the elevation level of 4,600 ft. and uneven footing in sandy washes, on loose rocks and on stone steps.
  • Hiking poles may be helpful.
  • Trail Type: Loop, plus short out and back segments.
  • Hiking Time: 2-1/2 hours.
  • Graded dirt road for .6 miles from Park Blvd. to the trailhead parking area.
8:00 AM: Meet in the Palm Springs Walmart/Petsmart parking lot at Ramon and Crossley (Map click here). Arrive early to allow time for check-in and to arrange transportation. Carpooling is encouraged and may be available if offered by driver. You are responsible for arranging your own transportation or ride share.

Fees/Charges: Joshua Tree National Park charges an entrance fee.  Bring your park pass if you have one.

Trailhead:  We will enter the park from the North Entrance, located in 29 Palms. It is the closest entry to the trailhead, and there are typically fewer visitors entering at this location.
