For those who like the comfort approach to touring the desert art scene, Great Outdoors Palm Springs will be hosting a
Curated bus tour of Desert X art installations
Sit back, relax, and leave the driving to us (actually a licensed, trained bus operator!) and enjoy a selection of outdoor art exhibitions!
Desert X is an outdoor contemporary art exhibition that happens every 2 years with installations throughout the Coachella Valley...returning in 2025. Our trip will take about 4-5 hours to travel to 5 selected exhibits across the Valley chosen by our expert docent Ron F. especially for us! At each selected installation we will walk a short distance (usually less than 200 yards) from the parking location to the installation where our docent will discuss the artwork, artists, and background of why it/they were selected for this year's event. There will be time for participants to walk around and enjoy the exhibit before departing to our next location.
Transportation will be provided by Lin Lines of Palm Springs from our meeting point and returning; the cost of the transport is included in the ticket price. There will be snacks and drinks provided by Great Outdoors.
Desert X is a biennial event in the Coachella Valley, where time unfolds in geological epochs and the wind weaves stories through ancient mountains, a profound reverence for the enduring spirit of this harsh yet resilient region emerges, challenging us to glean wisdom from its vast knowledge. Far from an empty expanse, the desert landscape acts as a canvas of real and imagined histories, narrating tales of displacement, sovereignty and adaptation superimposed over visible testaments of time.
Reflecting on the desert’s deep time evolutions, the fifth edition of Desert X will delve deeper into nonlinear narratives of time, forming a space where ancestral wisdom intertwines and collides with contemporary visions for our collective future.

- Meeting time: 7:45am for departure at 8:00am (sharp)
- What to bring: layered clothing for warmer/cooler weather and wind, camera, additional snacks, water, other items to make your journey more comfortable, footwear appropriate for short walks in desert sand/gravel

- Ticket refunds: a refund minus $10 service fee will be issued only if there is a waitlist and the spot is filled.
