Join us for Pride Outside,
a Pride Month Celebration at Eaton Canyon Natural Area
Queer Plant Walk- Celebrating the Diversity of Native Plants!
Thursday, June 27, 6 - 9 PM
Eaton Canyon Natural Area Park and Nature Center is a natural preserve located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. This scenic 198 acre natural area was originally called “El Precipicio” by Spanish settlers because of its steep gorges, and was later named after Judge Benjamin Eaton a progressive pioneer, who was the first to use irrigation from Eaton creek to grow grapes on the slopes. Visitors can explore Eaton Canyon’s expansive hiking and equestrian trails, along with a staging area, seasonal streams, abundant native plants and wildlife and a nature center with displays, live animals, classrooms, auditorium and gift shop!
Location: Eaton Canyon Natural Area: 1750 N Altadena Dr, Pasadena, CA 91107 (626) 398-5420
Distance of walk: 1.5 hour walk around the Natural Area exploring plants, approximately 1 mile round trip, one stream crossing with 2 inches of water. Wear shoes that can get wet or cross over rocks.
Time: 6 PM
EVENT: LA County Parks is hosting Pride Month celebrations through the month of June at various parks, pools and natural areas in partnership with LGBTQ+ community-based organizations with the hope to elevate inclusion in parks and recreation programs and spaces, while celebrating LA County’s diversity. Each park will host a different activity and experience that may range from a picnic, artist experience, concert, and dance, just to name a few.
We are very excited to have been invited to collaborate with the Eaton Canyon Nature Center, where we will be joining our Eaton Canyon partners on a Queer Plant Walk - Celebrating the Diversity of Native Plants in addition to hosting a table to answer questions about who Great Outdoors is and to provide some fun giveaways. The Eaton Canyon team will also have other activities including crafting, nature journaling and more!
Our walk will begin at the Nature Center where we will learn more about the Park. We will then walk through our Native Garden and into the natural area
and discover the amazing world of sexual diversity in native plants, their habitat preferences, pollinator partners, reproductive systems and so much more.
After the walk, you will be invited to join activities including nature journaling and painting. Then, lets socialize as you check out our nature exhibitors as well as resources and volunteer opportunities available to you!
