Outside with Pride

Arroyo Hondo Preserve

July 7, 2024 10am-1pm

Gear up for a moderate-difficulty Pride hike! Managed by the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County, the Arroyo Hondo Preserve offers a mix of trails up a mountain ridge and cool, stream-side paths through native California bay laurels and sycamore trees. The terrain transitions through ancient oak trees, tall yucca blooms and aromatic sages up the high ridges of the Santa Ynez Mountains. Enjoy sweeping vistas of the Gaviota coastline and the distant islands of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. The watershed is home to thousands of plant and animal species, including several that are considered threatened or endangered. There are sure to be beautiful wildflowers, even if it's past the height of the blooming season.

What to Expect:

  • A moderate-difficulty hike of approximately 2-3 miles.
  • Breathtaking views of the canyon and surrounding landscape.
  • An opportunity to learn about the native plants and animals of the preserve.
  • Insights into the cultural significance of the area.

What to Bring:

  • Sturdy hiking shoes or boots
  • Comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather (expect sunshine and potentially warm temperatures)
  • Sunscreen and hat
  • Reusable water bottle
  • A sense of adventure!

Don't miss this chance to explore one of Santa Barbara's hidden gems!
