Please join us on Saturday July 23rd from 10:00 am to 4 pm for a combination of guided hikes including picnic lunch (bring your own) and optional dessert/ beverage at Terranea resort (bring a few bucks).

The hikes offer stunning scenic views and are good for beginning to moderate skill levels. The trails are along mixed (mostly flat) dirt and sandy paths.

Gazebo at Roessler Point - Palos Verdes Estates


The gazebo was named after former councilman and mayor of Palos Verdes Estates Fred Roessler. It is located at Paseo del Mar and Via Arroyo next to the Palos Verdes Beach and Athletic Club and across the parking lot from Malaga Cove School.

10:15 amHike One:


Our resident geologist (just back from Africa) Professor Joe Holliday will guide us along the Malaga Cove Trail which is a scenic short coastal trail down the hill from the Gazebo to the rocks, sand, and surf of the "prettiest beach you've never heard of".


11:45 am: 

We depart for Point Vicente Interpretive Center (5.3 miles, 12-minute drive),

12 Noon Lunch Break:


Free parking lot adjacent to Interpretive Center and Lighthouse Park area.

Meet at on lawn/picnic area just south of Interpretive Center and Museum for lunch break.

Bring your own lawn chair/blanket and packed lunch (there are also some picnic tables if available).


1:15 pm Hike Two


Easy hike around Seascape Trail in the Vicente Bluffs Reserve (2 miles round trip)


2 pm Hike Three:

Point Vicente Lighthouse to Terranea Beach (2.6 miles round trip) and Sea Cave.


This is an easy trail with breathtaking views as we pass above Pelican Cove and stroll onward to the spectacular Terranea Resort property. There we can stop and enjoy the gorgeous landscape with stunning ocean views and have a coffee/tea/gelato/or even an afternoon adult beverage. The Terranea Beach sea cave is a must sea.


Registration is free and required.

Bring: drinking water in a reusable bottle, lunch and/or snack, sun protection, and wear sturdy footwear.   Carry Emergency Contact Information.

Health Issues/AllergiesIt is the responsibility of participants to carry on their person a record of significant allergies, medications and medical history in the event of a medical emergency.  Discuss any medical concerns with the hike leader if you wish.

Current COVID-19 Requirements: Most of our participants are vaccinated, and we ask that you get vaccinated and boosted if able to. Together, we are fighting the spread of this deadly virus and its variants! We ask all outing participants to comply with the following:

  1. I will follow Federal, State and local COVID guidelines as well as the directions of the event leader(s). See Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
  2. I will not attend if feeling ill or have any symptoms of COVID.
  3. I will contact the Trip Leader if I test positive for COVID within 14 days of the event.
