Avila Beach Day Outing Kayak to Lighthouse

February 25, 2022 at 10 AM

Meet at Parking lot outside Avila Beach Paddle Sports by Harford Pier (Port San Luis) 3915 Avila Beach Drive, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405

Avila Beach is a south facing beach in southern SLO County. This beach is usually warmer in comparison to the nearby beaches of Pismo Beach and Grover Beach. We start our two hour kayaking experience on the left side of the pier parking lot, then paddling under the pier itself. As we kayak through, you’ll get to observe the sea life forms like seaweeds, sea otters, sea lions and who knows, we might even see a whale! After paddling less than a mile out in the waters, we will stop at the last beach on the right, near the breakwater (Whalers Island). Next, we go up the stairs, and walk appx 1500 ft to the building that houses the historic lighthouse. From then on, absorb the beautiful views of the communities nearby, breathe the fresh breeze from the Pacific Ocean and on a clear day, you might even see Point Sal.

After coming back from the lighthouse, we can get lunch at the nearby Fat Cats Cafe.

This kayak day trip is great for beginners. If you’ve never kayaked before, someone will show us how to do it. There’s a kayak rental place at the meet up location. I included the link so you can reserve your kayak. Please select the 2 hour option. If you would like to tandem but going by yourself, please let me know so I can pair you with another person.
