Notes quoted from Wikipedia:

History: On December 16, 1896, 3,015 acres of land surrounding the observatory was donated to the City of Los Angeles by Griffith J. Griffith. In his will Griffith donated funds to build an observatory, exhibit hall, and planatarium on the donated land. Griffith's objective was to make astronomy accessible to the public, as opposed to the prevailing idea that observatories should be located on remote mountaintops and restricted to scientists.

Admission: has been free since the observatory's opening in 1935, in accordance with the benefactor's will. Planetarium shows at the Observatory are offered eight times a day on weekdays and ten times a day on weekends. A nominal fee is charged for admission to the planetarium shows.

Getting there by car: There is a small parking lot next to the Observatory, plus more spaces along Western Canyon Rd, which require payment of $8–10 an hour, depending on the season. During busier times, the roads can get congested and limit access to the top. Click here for map. An option to finding parking at the observatory is to park near Sunset and Vermont and take the DASH Observatory public bus service from the Vermont/Sunset Metro Red Line station to the Observatory.

The Dash bus leaves from the Northeast side of the intersection at 10:00 AM arriving at the Observatory at 10:19 AM and then every 30 minutes.

4) Getting there by public transit: For those going from the Long Beach area, meet at the Willow Station of the A (Blue) Line at 8:30 AM. If you are traveling alone, make sure that you change at the end of the A Line to the B (Red)) Line going to North Hollywood. Get off at Sunset and Vermont, and take the Dash bus to the Observatory at the bus stop on the Northeast corner of the intersection. We will arrive at the Observatory at 10:19 AM.  For those using the C (Green) Line, change trains at Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station and take the A Line North and then follow the instructions just above. The train will leave Willowbrook/Rosa Parks at 9:02 AM.

All visitors must wear a face mask at all times while inside the Observatory and on the roof. By entering the building, visitors are agreeing to follow this requirement.

Visitors must show proof of Covid-19 vaccination to enter.

Please cancel if unable to attend, so someone on the waiting list can register.
