Presenting GOLA's FIRST Second Saturdays Hike of 2022. We aim to have a hike on the second Saturday of each month in this year. If you have ideas or would like to co-lead a hike, please contact Joe Russo at Dayactivities-LA@GreatOutdoors.org
On January 8 from 2 pm to 5 pm for a 3.4-mile scenic hike along Bluff Cove Trail along the rocky beach to Lunada Bay in Palos Verdes.
Bluff Cove to Lunada Bay Trail is a 1.7 mile out and back trail located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, California, that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail leads down to the rocky beach so make sure to have a sturdy hiking boot. Find or bring a walking stick.
We hope to see south bound migrating gray whales pass by as they make their annual journey to the warm waters of Mexico from the Arctic.
We recommend you read our suggested 10 essential items to bring - click here.
Bring: drinking water in a reusable bottle, lunch/snacks, sun protection, hiking poles may be helpful. Sturdy footwear recommended for trail and rocky areas on the beach. Bring binoculars to better see whales. Carry Emergency Contact Information.
Hike leaders: John Blasco and Joe Holliday (earth sciences professor and nature guide)
Contact: John Blasco, at johnlongbeach@gmail.com or 562-726-4165
Registration is free and required; available to 30 persons (please include email address).
Rain postpones the event.
Meeting point: There is no sign that marks Bluff Cove, just the "EMERGY VEHICLES ONLY" sign at the top of the trail, on Paseo del Mar. Park near the sign. Street parking near the trail head.
Health Problems/allergies: It is the responsibility of participants to carry on their person a record of significant allergies, medications and medical history in the event of a medical emergency. Discuss any medical concerns with the hike leader if you wish.
Pet Policy: No dogs allowed on the beach
Current COVID-19 Requirements: Most of our participants are vaccinated, and we ask that you get vaccinated and boosted if able to. Together, we are fighting the spread of this deadly virus and its variants! We ask all outing participants to comply with the following:
- I will follow Federal, State and local COVID guidelines as well as the directions of the event leader(s). See Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
- I will maintain distance (min. 6') and wear a mask if social distancing is not possible.
- I will not attend if feeling ill or have any symptoms of COVID.
- I will contact the Trip Leader if I test positive for COVID within 14 days of the event.
