  • Thu, February 28, 2019
  • 8:30 AM
  • Joshua Tree Park

  • Trail Length: 5-6 miles
  • Hiking time: 3-4 hrs
  • Total Elevation Gain/Loss: 800’
  • Difficulty Rating: Strenuous *
  • Type: Off trail route
  • Trail Route: Out and back

*This strenuous hike requires agility, flexibility and some scrambling experience to negotiate the boulders and vegetation that crowd sections of this remote canyon in the Covington Flats area (JTNP). The reward  is a collection of water-sculpted, polished rock slabs and water cut falls and desert vegetation and wildflowers in a riparian drainage.  Strenuous due to off-trail hiking, short boulder section and dense willows.

We will drive to Eureka Peak following the hike for views of the Coachella Valley and the large Joshua Trees that grow in this area.
