ACTIVITIES - MOONLIGHT HIKES

According to GOPS members Carroll Smith and Bob Skinner, there is no romantic tale behind these special hikes. It's just a gathering for camaraderie and evening exercise and to enjoy the moon and the stars. Since the moon rises at different times at night, just like the sun in the day time, Carroll warns that he won't be around if it's gonna be full moon rising at 2 in the morning. Carroll also remarks that a hike of this nature will be of various lengths and difficulty.

The goal is to have an enjoyable walk among friends. You may need to dress warmly, wear comfortable shoes and bring a flashlight and water.

These pictures are from the 6/12/2003 Moonlight Hike - Cathedral Canyon Wash and Canyon. The hike went along the wash ridge and then down into it. The hike continued to Cairn Valley and members built a Great Outdoors "cairn" with the rocks along the canyon. (Definition for "cairn" - a heap of stones piled up as a memorial or as a landmark.) The hike continued up the canyon to the first waterfall terrace. Several then climbed up another 30 feet to the grand waterfall terrace to see if the cairn 2002-2003 Chapter President Craig Courtright built during the scouting trip was still there. President Craig showed the group how to build a "cairn."
