DAY HIKE - CEDAR SPRINGS
PINE MOUNTAIN & PCT
Notice: Effective October 1, 2004, a two dollar fee ($2) will be
charged for all non members on day hikes, 4x4 outings and moonlight hikes.
Description:
We’ll be driving to the Cedar Springs Trailhead off the Morris Ranch road in Garner Valley. This hike
takes switchbacks up the mountainside, to reach the crest, where we cross over the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT).
From this junction, we drop down 370 feet to Cedar Springs. Along the way, you’ll have spectacular views
of the central area of the Coachella valley.
At the cedar grove, it seems like a magical place: we almost expect to see some leprechauns or similar
forest creature make an appearance. We’ll have lunch in the heavily shaded location and then hike back
to the PCT.
Walking the ridge of the PCT, having simultaneous views of Coachella and Garner valley, we head toward an
old 4x4 dirt road. We finish the last 4 miles winding down this dirt road, walking through the forest
with views of Pyramid Peak to our right and across lightly rolling hills back toward the main road.
Bring water/lunch snacks/10 essentials
Note: This trail is very exposed, be prepared for rain and strong wind/gusts.
Please compensate your drivers as well! Mileage is 88 miles.
