Saddleback Butte
Only three people braved the freezing weather to enjoy the sites
of Saddleback Butte. They had the camp all to themselves. Day time temperatures
were in the 60s dropping at night to the mid 30s. They followed a trail up the
butte which takes about 4 hours to hike. Because of the dry winter the wild
flowers were already brown. The sky was expansive and the vegetation intriguing.
Perhaps you'll join us next year.

Trips in 2005
This is a link to photos of trips that were taken in 2005. I
hope you enjoy them.
We had a great group at the Huntington Library on Saturday
February 18. The gardens were outstanding and the library displays were very
informative. We had lunch on the grounds. It was a fun outing. There were ten
people who visited with us.

Neither rain, sleet, hail, ice and temperatures in the upper 20s
could stop 15 participants, of Phase I of the Outdoors Experience Program, from
receiving their Day Hike Certification. The meeting was held at Monrovia Canyon
Park in the Angeles Mountains. Click the link for the complete review of
the weekend.

Outdoor Experience Phase Two
Congratulations to the 10 people who graduated Phase Two of the
Outdoors Experience and are our new fully qualified Trip Leaders. The weather
was beautiful and the instruction thorough. Sadly not everyone was able to
complete the course. But there's always next year. If you haven't taken this
course, watch for it to be repeated. It's well worth the time and money.

We had a wonderful dinner cruise in the Long Beach harbor. The
ship was full of festive and happy cruisers. There was some dancing and a lot of
visiting. The food was good and the view of the harbor spectacular. We cruised
out past the Queen Mary, took a tour into Naples, and then headed back to port.
The trip was wonderful. If you missed it plan to be there next year. YOU

Santa Rosa Plateau
A large group of intrepid hikers clambered over the hills and up to the vernal pools of the Santa Rosa Plateau Preserve. The wild flowers were everywhere and every color. We stopped for lunch at the oldest Adobe Buildings in California. Then headed to the top of the mountain. After the hike was went into town for pizza. It was a good trip. See you next year.
