Orange County Long Beach Chapter

This is a remarkable find in freeway-friendly Orange County. Easy to reach and boasting diverse scenic beauty. We will meet at the trailhead at 8:30 AM.  Trekking through Borrego Canyon, we will enjoy a variety of plants and trees. Half of the hike is shaded and has been described as “Tolkienesque.” There are also dry sandy areas.

We will reach Red Rock Canyon after about two miles of hiking. This is a spectacular sandstone cliffs banded with layers of ancient sand and mud. The canyon is the trail’s end.  We will enjoy a rest, some quiet time, and then we will hike back to the trailhead.  Depending upon the group, there may be a short, elevated loop added to the hike.

Afterwards, many of us will gather for lunch at a nearby food court.  Recent rains may leave the trail damp and muddy.

The trail is well marked and heavily traveled. There may see mountain biker, joggers and other signs of wildlife.

See the trip notes for more information and directions to the trail head.
