NOTICE: This trip has been rescheduled due to a delay in the reopening of the Tram.
Catch a view from the top of 10,834 feet high Mt San Jacinto Peak, our destination for this October 28th day hike. We will be taking the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway from the desert floor up 6,000ft to the Mountain Station (and almost 30 degrees cooler!)
The trail from the Mountain Station to the summit of Mt. San Jacinto is just under six miles long (11.5 miles round trip) with an elevation gain of 2600 feet. There is a view point half way for those not wanting to go to the top (expect a 2-3 hour wait for the others to return from the peak) This trip should be considered moderately strenuous due to the high altitude.

Meet us at the tram in Palm Springs. Please be there by 8:45am in time for the 9am Tram. If you are running late, please call my cell before I get out of range.
Notice: The Palm Springs tram will be down for maintenance the rest of the month of Sept and at least part of October. Please call the tram early in the week of October 28, to make sure it is opening on Saturday morning. The number for the tram is (760) 325-1391 (recorded message) or (760) 325-1449 (business office). If the tram does not open, this trip will be cancelled for this year. Weather may also be a factor.
Many of us stay Saturday night in Palm Springs. For those that do stay, we will meet for dinner at a local restaurant.
Wear sturdy hiking boots and thick socks, (two pairs of socks are recommended to prevent blisters). Be prepared for cool weather (It is 30 degrees cooler than Palm Springs). Also bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat and a daypack containing at least two quarts of water, and lunch. To be on the safe side, bring along a poncho or waterproof jacket in case there is a threat of afternoon thunderstorms.
There is no cost for this trip and no pre-registration is required, just show up at the Tram. You will be responsible for paying for the cost of the tram ride. The normal cost is $21.95 for a round-trip. (By showing your AAA card you will get a discount)
