Orange County Long Beach Chapter

The Orange County/Long Beach Chapter has reserved space at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. This is a mountain setting 10 miles south of Julian, California and east of Escondido. We will camp at about 5,400 feet in elevation in a pine forest. There are over one hundred miles of hiking trails to explore, plus breathtaking scenic views to capture in photographs. There is a lake about 2 miles away, with full boat rentals at the lakeside. Julian is 10 miles to the north and is the apple capital of California. Julian is a quite little former mining town from the late 1800’s. It is now however a tourist destination. There are plenty of apple pie shops and restaurants if an afternoon meal is your thing. We will have a group hike on Friday afternoon. And Saturday we should have time for at least 2 hikes.

Even though we'll be in the mountains, it can be warm at this time of year. Night time temperatures should be in the 50s, It may be very warm during the day, high 80’s or 90’s. Bring plenty of drinking water. Cool cloths for the hikes, pack snack material for the hikes, and water, water ,water. The hiking trails run up to 6,000 feet in elevation.
